BEVERLY, MA - Endicott College senior midfielder Jillian Zagura (Hudson, MA/Hudson) netted a goal and assisted on another to lift the Gulls past crosstown rival Gordon College, 2-0, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference match Wednesday night at Endicott Stadium.
The win ran Endicott's unbeaten streak to nine games and allowed the Gulls (8-2-1 overall, 8-0-0 CCC) to remain in first place in the CCC. The Fighting Scots dropped to 8-2-2 overall (7-2-0 CCC).
Junior defender Staci Wiencko (Pembroke, MA/Notre Dame Academy) began the Endicott scoring at the 30:15 mark of the first half on a feed from Zagura, who added the insurance tally in the second half.
Zagura's goal capped the scoring in the 83rd minute set up by sophomore midfielder Erica Hunt (Colchester, VT/ Colchester) while Wiencko anchored the backline in front of junior netminder Tina Loguidice (Hyde Park, NY/F. D. Roosevelt), who made two stops in goal to record her third shutout of the season.
Endicott has not allowed a goal in its last six games. The last team to score on the Gulls was Roger Williams - in a 2-1 Endicott victory - on September 17.
Gordon received solid play from freshman Kristen Groff (Denver, PA) and sophomore Ashley Gates (Franklin, VT) up front while freshman Hannah Hassler (Westford, VT) played well on defense and junior goalkeeper Liz Bregou (Brewerton, NY) made six saves in goal.
Sophomore midfielder Margreta Weber (Bedford, NH/Manchester West) controlled the middle of the field for Endicott, which hosts Nicols College (7:00 pm) on Homecoming Day Saturday, while the Fighting Scots travel to Anna Maria (12:00 pm).
