No. 7 Colby Bests Women's Lacrosse, 9-8

WATERVILLE, Maine. — The Endicott women's lacrosse team lost to No. 7 Colby, 9-8, in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon at Bill Alfond Field.

Leah Black (Cheshire, Conn.) recorded a hat-trick as Mia Smith (Portsmouth, N.H.) tallied two goals. 

Abbie Belleville (Salem, Conn.), Katie Jones (Franklin, Mass.), and Kiana Napolitano (Revere, Mass.) each potted a goal.

In goal, Lydia Akins (Edina, Minn.) was dealt the loss (2-3) as she made nine saves in the contest.

Trailing after the first quarter 4-1, the Gulls pulled to within one at the break as they outscored Colby 5-3 in the second quarter. Smith scored twice in the second while Belleville, Jones, and Black also added tallies. Following Black's goal with 1:42 to play in the first half, Endicott's defense held strong as the Mules were only able to get one shot away and forced a turnover to thwart the attack going into halftime. 

Coming out of half, Black's third goal tied the game at seven just over a minute in. Colby went on a 2-0 scoring run to take a 9-7 game heading to the last 15 minutes. Napolitano cut the lead again to one early in the fourth quarter but the Gulls were unable to tie it as the Mules held on to emerge victorious.

  • Colby moves to 2-0 at home this season.
  • First hat-trick of Black's career.
  • The fourth quarter was the first time this seasoin Colby was shutout in a quarter.

Endicott (2-3) travels to No. 11 Wesleyan (Conn.) on Monday, March 18 at 3 PM. No. 7 Colby (3-0) hosts No. 18 Amherst at 12:00 PM on Saturday, March 16.
