No. 14 Women's Ice Hockey Ties No. 4 Middlebury, 3-3

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. — The No. 14 Endicott women's ice hockey team skated to a 3-3 overtime tie against No. 4 Middlebury, 3-3, in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at Chip Kenyon '85 Arena.

In the first period, Rivers Morris (Braintree, Mass.) took a backhanded feed from Maggie Lynch (Quincy, Mass.) and buried her fourth goal of the season at the 5:07 mark of the first period as the Gulls took a 1-0 lead. Both teams had chances the rest of the period but the score remained 1-0 going to the second period.

The Panthers tied the game just 53 seconds into the second and then took a 2-1 lead at 9:54 before Lily Anderson (St. Paul, Minn.) tallied a shorthanded goal to tie the game at two apiece (16:48) as the two teams were deadlocked going to the third period.

Morris added her second goal of the game less than five minutes into the thrid periond (4:31) to give Endicott the 3-2 advantage. The score would remain that way until Middlebury scored at the 17:53 mark and sent the game to overtime.

In overtime, neither team was able to find the back of the net resulting in a 3-3 tie. 

In goal, Casey Moritz (Trophy Club, Texas.) made a career-high 35 saves as her record now goes to 6-4-2 this season.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott is now 0-9-2 all-time against Middlebury.
  • Last season's game between the two teams finished in a 3-3 tie as well.
  • First multi-goal game of Morris' career.
  • Anderson's shorthanded goal was the first for Endicott since Kaylee Liberty scored in a 5-0 victory versus Nichols on 11/4/22

No. 14 Endicott (8-4-2) returns to conference action as they visit UNE on Friday, January 12 at 7 PM. No. 4 Middlebury (5-2-2) travels to take on Plattsburgh St. on. Tuesday, January 9 at 7 PM.
