No. 9 Wisconsin-Eau Claire Tops No. 15 Women's Ice Hockey, 3-2

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. — The No. 15 nationally ranked Endicott women's ice hockey team fell to No. 9 Wisconsin-Eau Claire, 3-2, in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon at Chip Kenyon '85 Arena.

The back-and-forth game started with WEC getting on the board first halfway through the first period as Mackenzie Graham (Billerica, Mass.) tied the game at the 17:33 mark. 

The Bluegolds would regain the lead at 2-1 less than a minute into the second period. The Gulls responded with Payton Hansen (Spring City, Pa.) lighting the lamp to knot the game at two apiece.

WEC would then score the game-winner at the 11:05 mark of the third period.

In goal, Casey Moritz (Trophy Club, Texas) made 21 saves in the setback (5-4-0).

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • This was the first matchup between the two schools.
  • First goal of the season for Hansen.
  • Moritz has now recorded 20 or more saves in seven games this season.
  • Graham was named to the Panther/Cardinall All-Tournament Team.
  • Emmerson Hayes (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Lily Anderson (St.Paul, Minn.) led the Gulls with five faceoff wins.

WHAT'S NEXT

No. 15 Endicott (6-4-0) will travel to play Wesleyan (Conn.) on Saturday, December 2 at 7 PM.

No. 9 Wisconsin-Eau Claire (7-3-0) will now travel to Minnesota and play Hamline University (Minn.) on Tuesday, December 5 at 7 PM.
