Women's Basketball Handles Kalamazoo in Florida Sunshine Shootout, 68-43

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The Endicott women's basketball team knocked off Kalamazoo by a score of 68-43 on Wednesday afternoon in the opening game of the Florida Sunshine Shootout.

Sarah Dempsey (Windham, N.H.) recorded season-highs of 28 points (11-18 FG, 2-2 3PT), 15 rebounds (10 defensive, five offensive), four blocks, and three steals in her 29 minutes of play. She was also a game-high +25 in plus/minus. 

Emma Shinney (Wakefield, Mass.) was the only other Gull to record double figures in scoring, as she notched 19 points (8-16 FG, 1-2 3PT) to pair with her four rebounds and three assists on the afternoon.

Alyssa Garabedian (Cheshire, Mass.) contributed a solid all-around effort from the floor, tallying seven points (2-4 FG, 1-2 3 PT) along with three rebounds, a steal, a block, and an assist in 17 minutes of action.

The Gulls jumped out to a 17-13 lead after a quarter thanks to 11 first quarter points from Dempsey. They maintained that four point lead heading into the half, holding a slight 27-23 edge at the break.

In the third quarter, the Blue and Green exploded for a 24-8 run, stretching its lead out to 20 (51-31) heading into the fourth. Dempsey again led the surge, recording 12 points and eight rebounds in the stanza.

The Blue and Green closed out the game with a 17-12 fourth quarter. Freshman Cora Nadeau (Newport, Vt.) chipped in on the final effort with her six points, six rebounds, and two steals in the matchup.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The 25-point margin of victory is Endicott's highest since January 7, 2023, versus Wentworth (77-52).
  • The Gulls outscored the Hornets 34-16 in the paint.
  • Dempsey's 28 points place her tied for 11th in the single-game program scoring records.
  • Endicott recorded 19 points off turnovers as opposed to Kalamazoo's 10.

Endicott (3-5) faces Principia on Friday for a 2:00 PM tipoff. Kalamazoo (2-9) faces Clarkson tomorrow at 2 PM.
