Balanced Attack Propels Women’s Basketball Over Salem State, 95-82

BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott women's basketball team defeated Salem State, 95-82, in non-conference play on Saturday afternoon at MacDonald Gymnasium. 

Emma Shinney (Wakefield, Mass.) led the quintet of Gulls in double-figures with a career-high 22 points (9-14 FG, 4-6 FT), 10 rebounds, and nine assists in 31 minutes of action. 

The trio of Sarah Dempsey (Windham, N.H.), Katelyn Konareski (Milford, Conn.), and Libby Fleming (Bangor, Maine) each posted 16 points respectively, while Cora Nadeau (Newport, Vt.) added a career-high 11 points and ripped down three rebounds. 

The Gulls soared out to an early 25-12 lead courtesy of a 13-2 stretch at the end of the opening quarter. The run was generated by Dempsey (4), Fleming (3), Shinney (2), Taylor Bogdanski (Saugus, Mass.) (2), and Tenley Wallin (Danbury, Conn.) (2). 

Meanwhile, the Blue & Green closed the second quarter on a 15-3 spurt in the last 4:58 of the half which ignited a 46-30 advantage at the break. 

From there, Endicott manufactured its largest lead of 22 points of the contest (69-47) via a Shinney lay-in with 58 seconds to play in the third quarter.

Salem State opened the final quarter with an 18-5 run to cut the Gulls lead to 77-67 with 5:11 remaining.

Endicott fended off Salem State to pick up its first home triumph of 2023-24.  

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Gulls produced a season-high 95 points (t-6th all-time)
  • The hosts reserves outscored the visitors' substitutes, 33-2.
  • Shinney recorded the first double-double of her collegiate career.
  • The Blue & Green netted 39 field goals (t-3rd all-time).
  • Endicott led for 38:35 of the matchup.

Endicott (2-5, 1-2 CCC) competes in the Florida Sunshine Shootout on December 27-29. Salem State (5-5, 0-0 MASCAC) takes on Hope on Thursday, December 28 at 12:00 PM.
