Women's Basketball Falls To Suffolk In OT, 71-64

BOSTON, Mass. — The Endicott women's basketball team was defeated by Suffolk in overtime, 71-64, in its second Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup of the season in Tuesday evening hoops action from Smith Court.

Libby Fleming (Bangor, Maine) dropped 19 points (8-19 FG, 2-2 FT) and snagged a career-high 19 rebounds (10 defensive, nine offensive). She also blocked a shot in her 43 minutes of play.

Emma Shinney (Wakefield, Mass.) fell just two rebounds and one assist shy of a triple-double, as she logged 10 points, dished out nine assists, and pulled down eight rebounds. Her eight rebounds and nine assists are both career-highs.

The Blue and Green received some clutch bench scoring from freshmen Cora Nadeau (Newport, Vt.) and Chloe Bindon (Walpole, Mass.), both of whom notched career-highs with nine points off the bench.

After a quarter of play, Endicott found itself trailing 20-15 despite 7-15 (46.8%) team shooting from the field.

Suffolk stretched its lead to six with 8:52 remaining in the first half, but Endicott sparked a 9-2 run to take the lead (27-26) thanks to some sharpshooting from Fleming, who scored all nine points in the run.

After the Rams reclaimed a two-point (29-27) lead, the Gulls proceeded to end the half with a 9-4 spurt, once again led by Fleming, to give themselves a 36-33 lead halfway through. Fleming tallied a total of 13 points on 6-7 shooting in the second quarter, and 15 points on 7-9 shooting in the half.

In a defensive third quarter, the Gulls outscored the Rams 10-8 to extend their lead to five (46-41) heading to the fourth.

The Blue and Green continued to hold its slight edge over the Rams until the 3:48 mark of the fourth, as Suffolk took its first lead since early in the third quarter. The two teams exchanged baskets through the final few minutes.

After Suffolk hit a three-pointer to take a 56-54 lead with just eight seconds remaining, Endicott responded in the final seconds of regulation with a clutch Shinney layup at the buzzer to send it to overtime.

In the five-minute overtime period, Suffolk outscored Endicott 15-8 to take the contest, 71-64.
