Softball Splits Home Doubleheader Versus Wellesley

BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott softball team split a pair of non-conference games against Wellesley (L, 1-0 | W, 7-0) on Wednesday evening.

GAME ONE: Wellesley 1, Endicott 0

WP (5-6): Sarah Wicker (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) — 7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 10 K
LP (2-1: Analise Grady (Reading, Mass.) — 7 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 5 K

Wellesley scored on a wild pitch with runners at second and third in the seventh to come away with the victory.

The Gulls had chances to score in the fourth (1st/2nd, 1 out, inning-ending double play) and the sixth (2nd, 2 outs, strikeout) but were unable to push across a run in either instance.

Grady was one out away from getting out of the seventh before the wild pitch scored the eventual game-winning run from third.

The sophomore lefty was dealt the hard-luck loss despite another solid outing where she mixed speeds and location, keeping Wellesley's offense off-balance throughout the matchup.

GAME TWO: Endicott 7, Wellesley 0

WP (7-3): Jaylin Couto (Taunton, Mass.) — 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
LP (4-3): Jillian Colgan (Las Vegas, Nev.) — 3.1 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 1 K

Julianna Roche (North Andover, Mass.) highlighted the Gulls in game two by going 3-for-3 with two RBI and a stolen base to help Endicott earn the split.

In the second inning, Roche singled home the first run of the contest before completing a delayed double steal to allow Christina Nowicki (Chelsea, Mass.) to scamper home from third for the game's second run.

Roche executed the play perfectly by taking off for second base, baiting the throw down, and stopping dead in her tracks before reverting back to first. By then, Nowicki took off from third, and with no chance to retire either runner Roche successfully swiped second.

Nowicki added some insurance in the fourth with a two-run shot to left center before Katie Watts (Swampscott, Mass.) belted a two-run homer deep over the left field scoreboard to make it 6-0.

In the sixth, Roche capped the scoring with an RBI double to left field scoring Nowicki from second base.
