Softball Goes 2-0 On Day Two In Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Endicott softball team defeated Clarkson (8-6) and Wesleyan (8-0, 5 inn.) on Monday afternoon at Legends Way.

GAME ONE: Endicott 8, Clarkson 6

WP (1-0): Analise Grady (Reading, Mass.) – 4.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 8 K
LP (2-3): Devin Fitzpatrick (Saugerties, N.Y.) – 7 IP, 10 H, 8 R, 7 ER, 2 BB, 5 K
SV (1): Jaylin Couto (Taunton, Mass.) – 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K

The Gulls rallied for four runs in the sixth inning to secure the game one victory.

Katie Watts (Swampscott, Mass.) cut into the deficit at 6-5 with a sac fly to right field before Chloe Shapleigh (Lynnfield, Mass.) mashed a go-ahead three-run homer to center complete the comeback.

Couto struck out the side in the bottom half and posted another 1-2-3 frame in the seventh for her first save of the season.

Grady notched her fourth career win in relief behind a career-high eight strikeouts.

In the first inning, Christina Nowicki (Chelsea, Mass.) laced a bases-clearing triple to left center, while Elyse Saccoccio (Coventry, R.I.) collected her first career RBI with a sac fly in the fifth to tie the game at 4-4.

GAME TWO: Endicott 8, Wesleyan 0 (5 inn.)

WP (1-0): Hadley Marchand (Andover, Conn.) – 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K
LP (2-3): Kelly Baker (Staten Island, N.Y.) – 0 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 0 K

Shapleigh's three-run homer in the first inning was all the Gulls needed with Marchand in the circle.

The freshman pitcher gave herself some insurance runs in the first (solo homer) and fourth (two-run single) sandwiched around a Watts RBI knock and a Shapleigh sac fly, both in the fourth.

In the circle, Marchand did not allow a single runner to reach second base, registered three 1-2-3 innings, and retired the last 11 batters she faced in order.

  • Marchand recorded her first career win and second career home run.
  • She also had a career-high three RBI against Wesleyan.
  • Endicott is 3-1 all-time against Clarkson (winners of three straight).
  • Shapleigh went 4-for-6 with three runs scored, one double, two homers, and seven RBI in the sweep.
