Softball Splits With Nichols In Home Opener

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott softball team split a pair of games against Nichols, 2-1 and 5-1, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action on Sunday afternoon.

GAME ONE: Nichols 2, Endicott 1

WP (4-4): Olivia Pedro (North Providence, R.I.) – 7 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 4 K
LP (3-2): Maria Hanchuk (South Windsor, Conn.) – 7 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 0 K

Trailing 2-0 in the sixth inning, Chrissy Marotto (Southington, Conn.) scampered home on a wild pitch to bring the Gulls within one run.

From there, Endicott could not capitalize on the new-found momentum and dropped the first game of the doubleheader.

GAME TWO: Endicott 5, Nichols 1

WP (3-2): Jaylin Couto (Taunton, Mass.) – 7 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K
LP (1-1): Laney Martin (Somerset, Mass.) – 4 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 2 K

The Gulls scored twice in the fourth inning behind an Emma DaSilva (Bristol, R.I) double and a sacrifice fly from Dani Lear (Groveland, Mass.), which helped advance DaSilva home, to give Endicott the 2-1 advantage.

In the fifth, another sacrifice fly from Lauren Misiaszek (Londonderry, N.H.) drove in Katie Watts (Swampscott, Mass.), while DaSilva singled to second base later in the frame plating Chloe Shapleigh (Lynnfield, Mass.) and Morgan Peryer (West Haven, Conn.) to help clinch the victory.
