No. 3 Wentworth Holds Off Men’s Volleyball, 3-1

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott men's volleyball team fell to No. 3 nationally ranked Wentworth, 3-1, on Wednesday night by scores of 25-23, 17-25, 17-25, and 21-25 at MacDonald Gymnasium.

Jake Laborde (Brookline, N.H.) posted a match-high-tying 14 kills on 31 swings (.290) in the setback.

Dean Warner (Kinderhook, N.Y.) chipped in with 12 putaways, while Aidan Iacovelli (South Windsor, Conn.) to highlight the attack.

Gavin Emenaker (Newton, Mass.) ran the offense with 29 assists, alongside four kills and four digs.

Tonight's match featured 21 ties (12-6-0-3) and six lead changes (5-0-0-1).

In set one, the Gulls took advantage of 13 miscues by Wentworth (7 attack errors, 6 service errors) to come away with an eventual 25-23 win to start the match.

Endicott turned around a slim 22-21 deficit with a Laborde kill, service error, a solo block by Logan Pohl (Longmeadow, Mass.), and another putaway by Laborde (second of three in the set).

From there, the Leopards upped their hitting percentage in every set (.357, .407, .464) to secure the road victory (11-1 overall).

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Prior to this week, Wentworth had been the top-ranked team in Division III for 10 straight weeks.
  • The Gulls are 24-14 all-time against the Leopards.
  • Wentworth has won five straight in the series.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (11-10) visits Eastern Nazarene tomorrow at 7 PM. No. 3 Wentworth (26-1) hosts Regis (11 AM) and Rivier (3 PM) on Saturday, April 6.
