Carter Roche Claims NECC Player of the Week after Endicott's Opening Weekend

BEVERLY, Mass. - Senior setter Carter Roche (Clifton Park, N.Y.) earned Endicott men's volleyball's first New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) weekly award for the 2014 season as he was named Player of the Week following the team's opening weekend efforts at the Live Free or Die Invitational in New Hampshire.

Roche averaged 9.22 assists per set and 2.00 digs per set in Endicott's three matches over the weekend as the Gulls went 1-2 overall. The senior captain totaled 83 assists, 18 digs, five kills, two blocks and an ace for the defending NECC champions.

In Endicott's season opening win over Daniel Webster 3-0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-21), Roche dished 38 assists with seven digs, two kills, and a block as the Gulls hit .320 as a team against their conference rival.  Roche found six different attackers for kills including two teammates for double-digit kills.

The following day, Endicott played a pair of matches against nationally-ranked opponents #5 Baruch and #8 Rivier. The Blue and Green lost both matches in straight sets, but Roche did his best to keep the Endicott offensive attack up while providing a defensive presence. Against Baruch, Roche totaled 22 assists and nine digs and against Rivier, he added 23 assists and with two more digs, two kills, and a block assist.

This is Roche's second NECC Player of the Week award in his career as he previously won back on April 15th, 2013 following Endicott's playoff run that ended in a straight set victory over Elms to capture the NECC title.

Roche and his Endicott men's volleyball teammates return to action on Saturday, February 8th with a road match at Emmanuel (Mass.).
