Men’s Tennis Downs Colby-Sawyer, 8-1

NASHUA, N.H. — The Endicott men's tennis team defeated Colby-Sawyer, 8-1, on Wednesday night at the Longfellow New Hampshire Tennis Club.

Endicott swept doubles in 1-2-3 fashion and never looked back in the non-conference matchup.

Oliver Pope (South Dartmouth, Mass.) / Conrad Kadel (Heidelberg, Germany) opened the contest with an 8-3 victory at the top of the lineup. 

Antonio Marsallo (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) / Julian Richtarich (Naples, Fla.) followed with an 8-2 triumph, while Aaron Terpko (Shrewsbury, Mass.) / George Danes (Old Lyme, Conn.) secured the sweep with an 8-4 win.

In singles, Pope made quick work of his opponent at No. 5 (6-2, 6-1) before his doubles partner Kadel clinched the match victory at No. 1 (6-4, 6-0).

The Gulls also received wins from Marsallo (No. 3, 6-4, 6-4), Danes (No. 2, 7-6 (3), 6-3), and Hudson De Risi (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.) in a hard-fought matchup at No. 6 (6-2, 3-6, 11-9).

"We applied what we've been working on in practice and did great executing aggressive patterns," said Endicott men's tennis head coach Anthony D'Angelo. "There's more training to be done, but this was a nice start."

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Gulls earned their second straight win over Colby-Sawyer (W, 6-3, 3/4/23, home).
  • The Chargers are 2-3 at home this season.
  • Terpko and Danes picked up their first win as a doubles pairing this season.
  • Endicott's other two doubles pairings made their first appearances this season as teammates tonight.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (1-2) visits Wheaton (Mass.) on Saturday, February 24 at 2 PM. Colby-Sawyer (2-3) will return to action on Sunday, March 10 against Western Connecticut State in Orlando, Florida as part of its spring break trip.
