Cupples, Hagarty '10 M'11 Headline CCC All-Conference Honorees

BEVERLY, Mass. — 14 members of the No. 17/19 Endicott men's lacrosse team have received Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) postseason honors, as announced by the league office earlier today.

The Gulls claimed three of the seven major awards that the conference doles out and 13 All-CCC selections among the league's first and second teams.

Ethan Cupples (Marshfield, Mass.) was named Defensive Player of the Year and Short-Stick Midfielder of the Year. Head Coach Eric Hagarty '10 M'11 rounded out the major award winners with Coach of the Year laurels for the second consecutive season.

Cupples joins Hayden Souza (West Hartford, Conn.) as the only other athlete in program history to win Short-Stick Midfielder of the Year two or more times in their careers.

MAJOR AWARD WINNERS

Defensive Player of the Year | Short-Stick Midfielder of the Year | All-CCC First Team

Cupples registered five goals, 32 ground balls, and five caused turnovers in 16 games played this season for the Gulls.

The Gulls finished second in the conference in scoring defense at 9.44 goals allowed per game, which ranks them 48th in all of NCAA Division III. The junior is part of a riding unit that ranks first nationally in opponent clearing percentage at .662.

This is Cupples' first Defensive Player of the Year Award and ninth in program history. The Marshfield, Mass. native collected his second career Short-Stick Midfielder of the Year award and the sixth in program history. Cupples and Souza are the only two athletes in program history to collect both Defensive Player of the Year and Short-Stick Midfielder of the Year Awards in the same season.

Coach of the Year

Hagarty led No. 17/19 Endicott to a 15-1 overall record and a perfect 7-0 mark in league play this season.

In conference-only games, the Gulls paced the league in goals (137), goals per game (19.57), assists per game (10.71), points per game (30.29), goals against average (7.92), ground balls per game (53.86), caused turnovers per game (12.57), and face-off percentage (.728).

Nationally Endicott ranks second in ground balls per game (47.25) and seventh in scoring offense (17.38), face-off winning percentage (.678), and ground balls (756).

Hagarty is 89-53 overall (.627) and 57-5 in CCC play (.919) in his nine seasons (2016-present) at the helm of the program. 

During that span, Endicott has won two conference championships.


WHAT'S NEXT

The first-seeded Gulls will host the CCC Championship against second-seeded Western New England on Saturday, May 4 at 1 PM. This will be a rematch of last season's CCC Championship game, which the Golden Bears won 18-9. The winner on Saturday will earn the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
