Sean Quirk announces captains for the 2012 men's lacrosse season

BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott men’s lacrosse head coach Sean Quirk announced today that seniors Chris O’Brien (Hampden, Mass.), Michael Armstrong (Winchester, Mass.) and Greg Szkop (New Britain, Conn.) will captain the Gulls men’s lacrosse team in the spring of 2012.

Endicott, coming off a 16-5 season last spring with a second consecutive 2nd round appearance in the NCAA Tournament, will look to the senior trio for leadership as they aim for an CCC Championship in program history.

“Chris, Mike and Greg will continue the great tradition of captains at Endicott,” says Coach Quirk.  “We expect our captains to lead on and off the field in every capacity.  They are adjunct members of the coaching staff and we as a staff rely on them for their leadership.”

Chris O’Brien, Sr., Midfield, Business Marketing

O’Brien has a total of four goals and one assist in his 43 games played thus far in a Gulls uniform.  Last year, he appeared in 19 of Endicott’s 21 games, tallying two goals and an assist.  O’Brien’s goals came in victories over Nichols and the University of New England.  He also had 12 groundballs and three caused turnovers last season.  Off the field, O’Brien has completed an internship with a technical recruiter for The Analog Group.

Coach Quirk says, “Chris has been an instrumental component of our team defense.  Chris leads with a style of energy that is infectious throughout the entire Endicott lacrosse family.  He will once again be a major piece of our defense and transition game.”

Michael Armstrong, Sr., Midfield, Sport Management

Armstrong has appeared in 35 games over his Endicott career with 24 ground balls, seven caused turnovers, two goals and two assists.  Off the field, he has interned with the Boston Blazers, the Boston Bruins and the Winchester Police Department as he pursues his degree in sport management.

Coach Quirk says, “Mike is the epitome of holding himself and his teammates accountable in every fashion.  He has truly earned everything that has come his way as a student-athlete.  We are fortunate to have Mike back for another year.”

Greg Szkop, Sr., Defense, Sport Management

A member of the CCC Academic All-Conference Team and Endicott Academic Varsity Club each of the past two seasons, Szkop has made his presence felt in 29 career games for the Blue and Green.  Last season he caused seven turnovers and scooped seven groundballs in 12 games played.  Szkop has completed several internships as he pursues his sport management degree including the Canterbury School Athletic Department, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers ticketing and community relations department, and the New Britain Rock Cats community relations and game day operations department.  Szkop has also been a crucial member of the Endicott ice hockey team since his freshman year.

Coach Quirk says, “Greg is a spectacular student in the classroom, three-year hockey captain at Endicott, and now a one-year lacrosse captain.  He will be the leader of the defense in 2012.”
