Men’s Golf Wins UNE Invitational; Frank Mahoney Earns Medalist Honors

KENNEBUNKPORT, Maine — The Endicott men's golf team shot a tournament record score of 282 (18 holes) to win the University of New England (UNE) Invitational on Monday evening at the Cape Arundel Golf Club (par 69, 35-34, 5859 yards).

Endicott took the top three spots in the one-day tournament to run away with the victory against UNE (308), UMaine-Farmington (311), Saint Joseph's College of Maine (318), and Maine Maritime (335).

Frank Mahoney (Braintree, Mass.) and Brady Burke (Bedford, N.H.) tied for first place with identical even par rounds (34-35, 69, E). 

Mahoney was credited with medalist honors for winning a scorecard tiebreaker.

Meanwhile, Tyler Baker (Falmouth, Maine) finished third overall (36-34, 70, +1) ahead of teammates Will Pierce (Melrose, Mass.) and Samuel Goldstein (Providence, R.I.) who ranked tied for sixth (39-35, 74, +5).

BEYOND THE SCORECARD

  • Mahoney and Burke finished three strokes shy of tying the tournament record (66, -3).
  • Their respective rounds mark the second-lowest score(s) in tournament history (four have shot 69).
  • The Gulls are the only team to shoot in the 280s in the 22-year history of the tournament.
  • Endicott secured its seventh first place finish at the UNE Invitational (second all-time, Southern Maine 8).
  • Mahoney notched the seventh medalist honor for the Gulls in the tournament's history (second all-time, Saint Joseph's (Me.) 8).

Endicott competes in the NEIGA Championship from Saturday, October 14 to Sunday, October 15.
