Men's Basketball Falls To Wesleyan (Conn.) In Emmanuel Tip-Off Classic Championship Game, 73-71

BOSTON, Mass. — The Endicott men's basketball team fell to Wesleyan (Conn.), 73-71, in the championship game of the Emmanuel Tip-Off Classic on Saturday night at Jean Yawkey Center.

Matt Boen (Mansfield, Mass.) led the way for Endicott with 17 points (6-11 FG, 4-9 3PT) along with two rebounds, two assists, and a steal in 29 minutes.

The Gulls lead for much of the first half as their biggest lead was 17 following a Jeff Hill (Lynn, Mass.) three-pointer. Endicott shot 47.1 percent (16-34) from the field as Boen scored eight while Ty Vitko (Dover, N.H.) added seven as the lead was 39-25 at the break.

The hot shooting continued for the Gulls as the lead would grow to 16 before the Cardinals started to slowly chip away. With Endicott leading 70-61 at the 4:23 mark, Wesleyan used a 9-0 run over the course of three minutes to tie the game at 70 with 1:18 left. 

After a made Wesleyan basket to take a 72-70 lead, Endicott cut the lead at the free throw line to 72-71. After a made Wesleyan free throw to regain the two point lead, the Gulls had a chance at buzzer but it was no good.

Hill added 10 points in the game to go with four rebounds and seven assists. Vitko and Drew Brown (Pelham, N.H.) both were right behind Hill with nine points apiece.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Gulls are 0-2 all-time against Wesleyan.
  • The Blue and Green finished with 21 bench points to 15 for the Cardinals.
