BEVERLY, Mass. — The No. 25 nationally ranked Endicott field hockey team was defeated by No. 24 Ithaca, 3-2, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Wednesday evening at North Field.
After Ithaca took an early 1-0 lead in the first quarter, Lindsay Bruns (Belfast, Maine) was able to capitalize off of a corner at 17:55, as she nailed home a loose ball in front of the net to knot the score.
Ithaca once again regained the lead in the third quarter, 2-1, but Endicott found a second equalizer at 47:44, as Reagan Hicks (Barnstable, Mass.) drilled one from deep in the circle off of the feed from Meghan Lehouiller (Colchester, Vt.).
Both defenses held strong over the final 12 minutes including a defensive save from Lehouiller to keep the Bombers off the scoreboard as the game would head to overtime.
In overtime, both sides had opportunities as the Bombers worked a corner, and eventually put away a game-winner off a deflection.
