Sawchuck is Field Hockey Rookie and Player of the Week
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – An incredible week by Endicott freshman Emily Sawchuck (Cumberland, Maine) culminated with her being named Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) field hockey rookie and offensive player of the week, announced by the conference office on Tuesday. This is the first conference award for Sawchuck, a freshman forward/midfielder.

Sawchuck was the difference in both games of a 2-0 week for the Gulls, collecting eight points overall. In Thursday’s dramatic 2-1 win over Nichols College, Sawchuck scored the game-winning goal with just 51 ticks left in regulation to break a 1-1 stalemate. Sawchuck ended the week with her most impressive performance coming in a 5-1 CCC triumph over Western New England. She opened the matchup against the Golden Bears scoring the first goal of the game and later tallied two more goals for her first collegiate hat-trick.

Sawchuck now has seven goals on the season, and fifteen points, both good for second on the squad.

The Endicott field hockey team has been on a roll of late, winning four straight games, all in the conference. They most recently dispatched a team from Gordon (4-1) on Monday afternoon. The Gulls will be back on the field Thursday night to play a non-conference game at Bridgewater State (7:00 pm).
