It was a battle for the EC field hockey team as they faced American International College in a rough game in Springfield MA yesterday, but that did not stop the Gulls from coming back from behind to take home the win. This is the Gulls seventh consecutive win and improves their overall record to 10-4. The Yellow Jackets who are part of the Northeast-10 Division II conference drop to an over all record of 2-13.
It was the Yellow Jackets who took the early lead on the Gulls in the first half. Yellow Jacket Jamie Anderson connected with teammate Kristen Wright to scored the first goal of the game just 6:25 into the half. The lead did not discourage the Gull from fighting back. It was sophomore Caitlin Murray who finished the play on a broken penalty corner with only 1:15 left in the half to tie the game.
14:04 into the second half EC was awarded an offensive penalty stoke when AIC's goalkeeper, Cindy Armand, covered the ball from open play. Senior Kim Doody capitalized on this penalty stroke and scored the game-wining goal. This was Doody's third goal scored on a penalty stroke this season. With only 3:32 left in the game, senior Erica Plasse feed the ball to senior KD Balentine for EC's insurance goal to win the game 3-1.
The Gulls will travel to Wellesley MA on Saturday October 16th to face Regis College in a CCC match up. Endicott is 3-1 in conference play and Regis College is 2-3 in conference play.
