CCC TOURNAMENT: No. 1 Baseball Knocks Off Second-Seeded Roger Williams, 4-1

CCC TOURNAMENT: No. 1 Baseball Knocks Off Second-Seeded Roger Williams, 4-1

BEVERLY, Mass. — The No. 1 nationally ranked and first-seeded Endicott baseball team topped second-seeded Roger Williams 4-1 on Friday afternoon to advance to Saturday's CCC Championship at North Field.

WP (8-0): John Connolly (Attleboro, Mass.) — 6.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 5 BB, 2 K
LP (5-2): Louie Mosca (Old Tappan, N.J.) — 6.0 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
SV (3): Will Fox (West Hartford, Conn.) — 2.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K

The Gulls pounced on the Hawks for two first-inning runs and didn't look back in the contest.

Danny MacDougall (Taunton, Mass.) and Joey Frammartino (North Reading, Mass.) ignited the early offense with some heads-up baserunning on a double steal of second and home to give the Gulls a 1-0 advantage. Brendan O'Neil (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) later drove in MacDougall with an RBI base knock up the middle to put the Gulls up 2-0 through a full inning.

The Hawks responded with a second-inning RBI single from Aidan Hawley (Natick, Mass.), but a terrific throw from centerfielder Brenden Walsh (Reading, Mass.) prevented any further damage on the play, as he cut down the tying run at the plate to get the Gulls out of the inning with a slim 2-1 lead.

Frammartino and the Gulls quickly recovered that run in the bottom half of the frame, as the Gulls' leadoff man drilled a single to center field to score Walsh.

The defense was on full display once again in the top of the fourth, as AJ Hamm (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and TJ Liponis (Scarborough, Maine) combined efforts to turn a highlight 4-6-3 double play up the middle to end the top of the fourth.

The Blue and Green would add another insurance run in the bottom of the fifth via O'Neil's second RBI single of the game, scoring MacDougall.

Frammartino joined in on the defensive highlight reel in the top of the sixth when he laid out twice in the inning to snag sinking liners off the Hawks' bats and rob them of extra bases.

Connolly and Fox kept that 4-1 lead intact for the remainder of the contest, sending the Gulls to their fourth consecutive CCC Championship.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Gulls hold a 40-22 advantage in the all-time series against the Hawks.
  • Frammartino notched his second consecutive three-hit game.
  • With his three stolen bases, MacDougall now ranks second nationally with 41 thefts on the season.
  • Connolly allowed just one hit through the first six innings.
  • Walsh tallied his third career multi-hit game.
