Van Emon Named ABCA/Rawlings Division III National Pitcher Of The Year

ABCA/RAWLINGS RELEASE

BEVERLY, Mass. — Endicott senior lefty Gabe Van Emon (Lexington, Mass.) has been named the 2023 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings NCAA Division III National Pitcher of the Year.

The ABCA/Rawlings Players/Pitchers of the Year are selected by ABCA coaches committees from nine divisions of amateur baseball: NCAA Div. I, II & III, NAIA, NJCAA Div. I, II & III, Pacific Association Division, and high school.

ABCA/Rawlings First-Team All-America selections were eligible for Player of the Year honors.

Van Emon is the first student-athlete in program history to earn the award and just the second Gull in College history to receive National Player of the Year honors.

Van Emon joins fellow baseball alum Tad Gold '14 (Martha's Vineyard), who received D3baseball.com NCAA Division III Player of the Year accolades in 2014, on the exclusive list.

In 16 appearances this season (14 starts, 2 complete games), Van Emon compiled a 10-2 record, including one save, over 86.1 innings pitched.

Van Emon finished the year with a 1.88 earned run average (ERA) after leading the country in the category for the majority of the season, 108 strikeouts (11.26 K/9), a 4.32 strikeout-to-walk ratio (25 walks), and a 1.03 walks and hits per inning pitched (WHIP) stat line.

The hard-throwing left-hander's NCAA ranks include the following figures (ranking/value): ERA (13th, 1.88), games started (8th, 14), hits allowed per nine innings (44th, 6.67), strikeouts (5th, 108), victories (9th, 10), WHIP (32nd, 1.03).

Along with those stats, Van Emon wrapped up his career as Endicott's strikeout leader (214), finished as the program's runner-up for lowest opponent batting average (2.48), and ranked fourth in ERA (2.48).

His 2023 campaign was equally as historic as Van Emon totaled the most wins (10), games started (14), innings pitched (86.1), strikeouts (108), and combined shutouts (4, tied) in a single season.
