Endicott’s Historic Season Comes To A Close In College World Series

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The No. 4/8 nationally ranked Endicott baseball team fell to No. 25 Misericordia, 13-6, on day two of the NCAA Division III College World Series (CWS) at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

BOX SCORE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Danny MacDougall (Taunton, Mass.) went 2-for-4 with three RBI
  • Nicolas Notarangelo (Taunton, Mass.) compiled his 19th multi-hit game of the year a 3-for-4 performance (one run, one walk)
  • Joseph Millar (Lake Hopatcong, N.J.) was 2-for-4 with two runs scored
  • John Mulready (Peabody, Mass.) collected a multi-hit game (2-for-4, one run)
  • TJ Liponis (Scarborough, Maine) hit the Gulls' second-ever CWS home run

ENDICOTT SCORING

  • Top 1st (lead 1-0): MacDougall notched a one-out infield RBI single to short following a leadoff triple down the right field line by Millar; the RBI for MacDougall was his sixth of the tournament, while Millar connected for his third triple of the year (first-ever in CWS)
  • Top 3rd (lead 2-0): MacDougall lifted a sacrifice fly to center field scoring Millar, who led off the frame with a single to center and advanced to third on a Notarangelo single through the right side
  • Top 4th (lead 4-3): Liponis laced a 2-2 offering over the left field fence, about 318 feet, for a two-run homer to reclaim the lead for the Gulls; the longball was the fourth of the season for Liponis
  • Top 6th (trailing 7-5): Notarangelo swatted a leadoff double to left center and eventually came around to score on back-to-back wild pitches; the Gulls left the bases loaded with two outs in the frame
  • Top 8th (trailing 9-6): MacDougall registered yet another RBI, this time with a single through the left side to score Caleb Shpur (East Canaan, Conn.); Shpur notched a one-out single down the left field line and advanced to second on a groundout before touching home

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Today's game was the first-ever meeting between the two programs
  • Notarangelo's leadoff double in the sixth was his 20th of the year; it also broke a tie with MacDougall for the single-season program record
  • MacDougall paced the Gulls in the NCAA Tournament (6-3 overall) with a .500 batting average, 17 hits, 11 runs (tied), and 10 RBI
  • His final stat line through nine games played was .500/.568/.735, 11 runs, five doubles, one homer, 10 RBI, six walks, and four stolen bases on five attempts

No. 4/8 Endicott sees its historic 2023 season come to a close at 45-9 overall.

No. 25 Misericordia (40-14) will play the loser of No. 10/12 Baldwin Wallace / No. 1/1 Johns Hopkins tomorrow at 12 PM (EST).
