No. 7/11 Endicott Sweeps Curry, 6-1 & 14-1 (7 inn.)

MILTON, Mass. — The No. 7/11 nationally ranked Endicott baseball team swept Curry, 6-1 and 14-1 (7 inn.), in conference action on Saturday evening at Jack Vallely Diamond.

GAME ONE: Endicott 6, Curry 1

WP (3-1): Rian Schwede (Whitman, Mass.) — 9 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 9 K
LP (3-3): Jack Needham (Raynham, Mass.) — 7 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 2 K

Endicott scored six unanswered runs and let Schwede handle the rest to take game one.

Nicolas Notarangelo (Taunton, Mass.) and Jake Nardone (Wakefield, Mass.) highlighted the offense with solo bombs in the sixth inning (4-1 lead).

On the bump, Schwede registered his second career complete game by compiling four 1-2-3 innings, while withholding the Colonels from reaching scoring position in six frames (2-3, 5, 7-9).

Schwede also retired the last 10 batters he faced from the sixth inning on. 


GAME TWO: Endicott 14, Curry 1 (7 inn.)

WP (4-0): Gabe Van Emon (Lexington, Mass.) — 7 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 12 K
LP (1-2): Conor Quinlan (Taunton, Mass.) — 3 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 0 BB, 2 K

Pitching headlined game two as Van Emon fanned a career-high 12 batters to guide the Gulls to the conference doubleheader sweep.

Van Emon's 12 strikeouts rank tied for second in program history (school record is 13).

Offensively, Robbie Wladkowski (Norwood, Mass.) and Kyle Grabowski (Westfield, Mass.) both homered in the third inning to put Endicott ahead 6-1.

Wladkowski launched a two-run homer to right center, while Grabowski belted a solo shot.

Joseph Millar (Lake Hopatcong, N.J.), Caleb Shpur (East Canaan, Conn.), Wladkowski, Grabowski, and TJ Liponis (Scarborough, Maine) all finished with multi-RBI games in the win.

  • The Gulls are 9-4 on the road this season.
  • Endicott is 35-18 all-time against Curry.
  • The Blue and Green are 4-1 in the last five meetings versus the Colonels.
