No. 9/12 Endicott Blanks Salem State In Season Opener, 7-0

BEVERLY, Mass. – Behind a seven-inning gem from Rian Schwede (Whitman, Mass.), the No. 9/12 nationally ranked Endicott baseball team defeated Salem State, 7-0, on Friday evening at North Field.

WP (1-0): Rian Schwede (Whitman, Mass.) – 7 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
LP (0-1): Jack Sefrino (Dartmouth, Mass.) – 5 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 3 K

Schwede was dominant in his first start of the season as the senior righty tossed four 1-2-3 innings and only allowed two runners into scoring position on 78 pitches (56 strikes, unofficially).

The Gulls' offense took care of the rest as Caleb Shpur (East Canaan, Conn.), Jake Nardone (Wakefield, Mass.), Nicolas Notarangelo (Taunton, Mass.), John Mulready (Peabody, Mass.), and Joseph Millar (Lake Hopatcong, N.J.) all drove in runs.

Shpur led the group with the game's first (third inning) and final (eighth inning) RBI of the night.

Meanwhile, Chris Jenkins (Mansfield, Mass.) also shined out of the pen by retiring all six batters he faced. His final line was two innings, no walks, and two punchouts.
