Three Gulls Baseball Players Named NEIBA All-Region

BABSON PARK, Mass. – Three members of the Endicott baseball team have been named to the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) All New-England Region team.

Senior first baseman Brett Holmgren (Middleboro, Mass.), sophomore second baseman Harry Oringer (Dartmouth, Mass.) and senior right handed pitcher Tyler Hitchcock (Abington, Mass.) were each named to the Second Team, earning their first All-Region honors and the first for Endicott since 2011.

Hitchcock, the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) player of the year, posted an 8-1 record this year with a 1.66 earned run average. He allowed just 13 earned runs and struck out 37 batters over 70.2 innings of work. Hitchcock tossed five complete games, including a two-hit shutout of CCC rival Western New England during the regular season.

Holmgren, a member of the CCC First Team, was second on the team with a .372 batting average and was on base at a .450 clip. He started 41 games at first base for the Gulls, scoring 33 runs and driving in 26 more. Holmgren socked nine doubles and was second on the team with 54 hits.

Oringer led the Gulls with 56 hits, at an average of .362, and a team-high on-base percentage of .470. Oringer drove in 33 runs and crossed the plate 42 times to lead the Gulls. Oringer's speed on the base paths helped him steal 13 bases on 15 attempts, and to leg out six doubles and an Endicott-high four triples. He also played a spectacular second base, piling up 114 assists and making just seven errors, and was also named to the CCC First Team in his sophomore season.

The Gulls (33-12) won their opening game of the NCAA Division III New England Regional tournament on Wednesday, 4-3 over St. Joseph's (Maine). Endicott will play tonight at 8:00 pm against Wheaton (MA), with live stats and video broadcast available on ECGulls.com.
