Women's Tennis Earns Five CNE All-Conference Honors
BEVERLY, Mass. — Five members of the Endicott women's tennis team have earned Conference of New England (CNE) postseason honors, as announced by the league office earlier today.
The honorees were Emily Leclerc (Manchester, N.H.), Nadia Uzelac (Waltham, Mass.), Jillian Friedman (Austin, Texas), and Caroline Sutliffe (Duxbury, Mass.).
Lastly, Sofia Montoya (Wenham, Mass.) was named as the Gulls' representative on the CNE Community Service Team for her charitable contributions and outstanding leadership within the Endicott community.
ALL-CNE SECOND TEAM SINGLES
EMILY LECLERC | SO.
Leclerc posted eight wins during the season, with 16 matches played in the No. 1 slot. The sophomore finished with a record of 7-3 in conference matches, including five straight set victories. One of Leclerc's conference victories came in thrilling fashion against the University of New England after dropping the first set 3-6, then winning the second set 6-2, and the tie-breaking set 10-5.
This is the second straight year the Manchester, N.H. native has been named to the All-CNE Second Team singles team last season.
NADIA UZELAC | FR.
Uzelac notched a 12-1 overall record in singles play on the year and an 8-1 mark in CNE action. The Waltham, Mass. native started the season on an eight-game win streak with all her victories coming in straight sets. In dual matches, the freshman played matches at three different positions, going 6-0 at No. 3, 5-1 at No. 4, and 1-0 at No. 5.
This is Uzelac's first career All-Conference honor.
ALL-CNE THIRD TEAM SINGLES
JILLIAN FRIEDMAN | FR.
Friedman compiled seven wins in singles action this season, as four of her wins came in conference play. The freshman provided the clinching point in both of the Gulls' CNE Tournament victories after falling in the regular season matchups against Roger Williams and Colby-Sawyer.
This is Friedman's first career CNE All-Conference honor.
CAROLINE SUTLIFFE | SO.
Sutliffe finished the fall season with seven overall wins and a 6-3 mark in CNE action. The Duxbury, Mass. native's seven wins all came in straight sets, along with playing at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions as she posted a 3-1 record at No. 2. The sophomore picked up a straight set 6-3, 6-1 win in Endicott's 4-0 victory in the CNE First Round over Roger Williams.
This is Sutliffe's second career CNE All-Conference singles honor after being named to the Second-Team last season.
ALL-CNE SECOND TEAM DOUBLES
Leclerc / Sutliffe
Leclerc and Sutliffe went 8-5 overall and 6-3 in league play at both the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. The duo went 3-2 at the No. 1 spot, including 2-1 in the CNE Tournament including avenging a regular-season loss to Colby-Sawyer to help the Gulls advance to the CNE Championship.
This is the pairing's first career All-CNE Doubles award. Sutliffe was named to the All-CNE Second Team for doubles last season.
ALL-CNE THIRD TEAM DOUBLES
Friedman / Uzelac
Friedman and Uzelac registered a 6-4 overall record and a 5-3 showing in conference action, mostly at the No. 1 position. The pairing opened the season with five consecutive victories, including two 6-0 wins, both of which came in conference action.
This is the duo's first career All-CNE Third Team honor.
SEASON REVIEW
Endicott finished its fall season with a 9-7 overall record and went 6-4 in conference play, earning the No. 5 seed in the CNE tournament. The Gulls defeated No. 4 seed Roger Williams (4-0) and No. 1 Colby-Sawyer (4-0) en route to a conference championship appearance, before falling to No. 2 seed Nichols, 4-1.
