Endicott Battles Past Bridgewater State, 6-3

BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott women's tennis team doubled up the Bridgewater State Bears, 6-3, on Monday afternoon at the South Campus Courts.  
In doubles, the team of Gretta Hartman (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Ashley Keaveney (Exeter, N.H.) pitched an 8-0 shutout at No. 1, while the duo of Cameron Foley, (Lynnfield, Mass.) and Cara McCormack (Worcester, Mass.) notched an 8-1 victory at No. 3. 

In singles action, McCormack (6-2, 6-1), Foley (6-3, 6-4), and Jennifer Stone (Baldwinsville, N.Y.), (6-0, 7-6 (7-1)), all came away with straight-set victories. 

Meanwhile, Olivia Berler (Marstons Mills, Mass.) earned a hard-fought 6-7 (6-8) 6-1, 1-0 (12-10) victory at No. 1.

"Bridgewater State is a scrappy team and really made us earn it," said Endicott women's tennis head coach Anthony D'Angelo. "We are really learning how to confront and manage our emotions, which will help us down the road." 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE 

  • This was the first win for the doubles team of Hartman and Keaveney. 
  • The Gulls have now won seven straight over the Bears. 

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (2-0) travels to Merrimack on Tuesday, September 10 for a 3 PM match. Bridgewater State (0-1) travels to Plymouth State on Saturday, September 7, for their first conference match starting at 1 PM.
