Women's Rugby Puts Together Strong Showing At NEC7C's Tournament

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Endicott club women's rugby team placed seventh overall out of 10 teams at the NEC7C's Tournament last weekend. The Gulls defeated Providence, 45-0, but fell in tight matches to Wheaton (15-5), Babson (25-5), and Northeastern (10-5).

"It was a great first tournament against some strong D1 and D2 teams," said Endicott club women's rugby head coach Carly Baker. "We had six rookies play in their first-ever matches and several returners who played in their first-ever 7s tournament. Overall, it was a great learning experience for them and the program. I'm excited about what's to come for this group this spring."

As for the matches, newcomers Melissa Drexler (Duxbury, Mass.) and Jillian Hersey (Townsend, Mass.) both scored tries in their debuts, while Laura Stump (Lynnwood, Wash.), Amanda Wisbeck (Hong Kong, China), Anna DeRoche (Alton Bay, N.H.), Brittany Rogers (Alton, N.H.), Cassidy McElhinney (Natick, Mass.), and Caitlin Burke (Dudley, Mass.), Emma Bishop (Lake Placid, N.Y.), Summer Cardoza (Edgartown, Mass.), and Juliana Difilio (Durham, Conn.) all shined in their first-ever 7s tournament.
