No. 2 Middlebury Bests Women’s Ice Hockey, 3-0

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott women's ice hockey team lost to No. 2 nationally ranked Middlebury College, 3-0, in non-conference action on Saturday evening at Raymond J. Bourque Arena.

Delanie Goniwiecha (Rochester Hills, Mich.) guided the Panthers to their fifth straight victory behind a pair of second period goals (12:17, 17:08), while Madie Leidt (Killingworth, Conn.) notched her sixth goal of the season in the first (9:36) to round out the scoring for the visitors.

In goal, Lin Han (Toronto, Ontario) stopped 27 shots to improve to 3-0-2 overall (31-10-7 career). Meanwhile, Endicott netminder Alyssa Peterson (Cranberry Township, Pa.) compiled a game-high 34 saves in the loss (7-2-0).  

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott's nine-game winning streak came to a close with tonight's loss.
  • The Gulls also saw their seven-game home unbeaten streak halted (7-1-0).
  • Middlebury is 4-0-0 on the road this season.
  • This is Peterson's first loss in net since November 12, 2019, when the Gulls fell to then-No. 7 nationally ranked Norwich University, 6-2, on the road.
  • Courtney Sullivan (North Yarmouth, Maine) won a game-high 13 faceoffs on 20 attempts (.650).
  • Alexa Pretkelis (Crystal Lake, Ill.) blocked a game-high three shots.
  • Middlebury entered today's contest ranked No. 4 nationally among all NCAA Division III programs on the penalty kill (27-for-28, 96.4%). The Panthers held Endicott, the No. 1 nationally ranked power play in Division III, to a 0-for-4 showing with the extra skater.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (12-2-0) travels to the University of New England on Friday, January 17 at 4 PM. Middlebury (8-0-2) visits Wesleyan next Friday at 7 PM.
