Bryn Lipton Earns AVCA All-American Honors

AVCA ALL-AMERICA RELEASE

BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott men's volleyball junior outside hitter Bryn Lipton (Rockford, Ill.) has been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America Second Team, as announced by the organization earlier today.

Today's announcement marks Lipton's second career AVCA All-America Second Team honor and the program's ninth overall. Lipton also is the fourth student-athlete in program history to claim multiple All-America honors joining Dan Coleman '09 (Millis, Mass.), Jeremy Fontaine '05 (Belchertown, Mass.), and Endicott Athletics Hall of Famer A.J. Witkofsky '10 (Scotia, N.Y.) on the list.

As for Lipton's 2019 campaign, the junior outside's year included the following stats: 3.39 kills per set (305 total), a .322 hitting percentage, 0.49 service aces (44 total), 1.64 digs (148 total), 0.40 blocks (seven solo, 29 assisted) and 370.5 points (4.1 per set) in 27 matches played.

Lipton also recorded four double-doubles this season and posted a career-high 26 kills over Cal Lutheran in a five-set win on March 19.

Meanwhile, Lipton's individual awards included an Off the Block All-America Preseason Honorable Mention honor, a New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) All-Conference First Team selection (third career), and a spot on the 2019 NECC All-Tournament Team after helping the Gulls capture their sixth conference championship in program history on April 13 against then-No. 5 Elms on the road, 3-1. In NECC Tournament matches (2-0), Lipton registered 23 kills (3.29 per set), 20 digs (2.86 per set), and went a perfect 49-for-49 on serve-receive.

Nationally, among all NCAA Division III student-athletes, Lipton ranks No. 26 in aces per set, No. 35 in hitting percentage, No. 28 in kills per set, and No. 19 in points per set. His play has also aided Endicott to its current No. 1 ranking in Division III in hitting percentage (.319) and No. 6 position in aces per set (2.27).

Those figures played a crucial role in the Gulls' NCAA Tournament run which featured a first round victory over St. Joseph's (L.I.), 3-1, and a hard-fought loss to No. 4 nationally ranked SUNY New Paltz, 3-2, in the quarterfinals. Lipton's individual stats included 30 kills (3.33 per set), a .411 hitting percentage, 13 digs (1.44 per set), eight blocks (0.89 per set, two solo, six assisted), and a perfect 53-for-53 line on serve-receive.

YEAR IN REVIEW

Endicott went 26-7 overall and 13-1 in conference play en route to winning the NECC championship over Elms, 3-1, on the road. The Gulls also ranked as high as seventh overall in the AVCA national poll.
