Witkofsky named AVCA All-American
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Endicott College’s \#A.J. Witkofsky\# (Scotia, N.Y.) has been named to the 2010 American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America Second Team as announced by the AVCA offices on Monday afternoon. Witkofsky helped lead the Gulls to a 28-8 overall record and the team’s second consecutive NECVA New England Division Championship this past season.

The selections were made by the AVCA Men's Division III Volleyball All-America Committee: chairpersons Charlie Sullivan (Springfield College); Tim Byram (Endicott College); Jonah Carson (University of California, Santa Cruz); Patrick Dorywalski (Stevens Institute of Technology); Allison Gunther (Baruch College); Keith Koch (Medaille College); and Craig Kolek (Rivier College).

The senior Witkofksy has already been named the NECVA New England Division Player of the Year and was also garnered with his fourth-straight NECVA All-Division selection. The middle blocker ranks in nation’s top five in both blocks and kills, while also ranking nationally in hitting percentage. This past season, Witkofsky was twice named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men’s Division III National Player of the Week. A.J. earns his second career AVCA Second Team All-America nod after grabbing the same honor in 2008.

\#A.J. Witkofsky\# graduates as the all-time leader in Endicott history in kills (1,945), attack attempts (3,927), blocks solo (147), block assists (418), total blocks (565), blocks per set (1.31) and points (2,390). This year, Witkofsky led the Gulls with 507 kills, good for 4.69 kills per set, while also tying for the lead in service aces with 35. The senior also was a force defensively as Witkofsky was second on the team in digs with 224 and led the team in blocks (148) and blocks per set (1.37).

The Gulls advanced to the NECVA Quarterfinals this past year before falling to Philadelphia Biblical University, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon. The No. 5 seeded Gulls defeated Emmanuel College, 3-2, in the opening round and finished its season with a program-best 28-8 mark.
