Gulls edge Emmanuel, move onto NECVA Quarterfinals
HYANNIS, Mass. – The Endicott College men’s volleyball team advanced to the NECVA Quarterfinals with a 3-2 win over Emmanuel College in the opening round of the NECVA Tournament held in Hyannis, Mass. The Gulls needed set scores of 25-30, 30-23, 27-30, 30-22, 16-14 to defeat the Saints. The Blue and Green face off with Philadelphia Biblical Institute tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m.

\#A.J. Witkofsky\# (Scotia, N.Y.) recorded 27 kills and hit .358 to lead the Gulls to their 27th win of the year. \#Zeke Kubisch\# (Bethlehem, N.Y.) chipped in 17 kills and \#John Emery\# (Westford, Mass.) added 14, while \#Ben Foster\# (Penfield, N.Y.) contributed 68 assists in the win. \#David Lowe\# (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) led the defense with 13 digs and \#James Sliva\# (Monroe, Conn.) added five blocks.

Endicott hit .302 as a team while Emmanuel went 82-176 with 30 errors, hitting .295. Endicott combined for 76 kills on the night.

Emmanuel’s Curtis Abram (San Luis Obisop, Calif.) posted a team-high 32 kills with only nine errors on 56 attempts, hitting .411. Tyson Rietz (Granite Bay, Calif.) tallied 18 kills and Thomas McCaffrey (Massapequa, N.Y.) added 14 while Nick Updike (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) assisted on 39 points. Michael Townsend (Beaverdam, Va.) led the defense with 17 digs.

The No. 5 seeded Gulls take on No. 4 seeded Philadelphia Biblical at 1:00 p.m. at the Hyannis Youth and Community Center. Emmanuel falls to 26-11 overall, wrapping up its 2010 season.
