BROOKLINE, Mass. - The Endicott College men’s volleyball team set a program record for wins in a season as the Gulls improved to 23-6 this season with a 3-2 win over Newbury College in NECVA New England Division action on Tuesday night in Brookline, Mass. Endicott’s \#A.J. Witkofsky\# (Scotia, N.Y.) posted a match-high 30 kills in the victory over the Nighthawks (19-10).

Endicott posted the five set win in a battle of the top two teams in the New England Division with scores of 33-35, 30-25, 27-30, 30-28, 15-13.

After trailing late in the first game, 28-24, the Nighthawks rallied back and edged out the Gulls, 35-33, to claim game one. Senior Joshua Aberly (Palatine, Ill.) was instrumental in the comeback, recording six kills while tallying two assisted blocks. Endicott cut short another Newbury rally as they took game two, 30-25, behind Witkofsky’s seven kills to even up the match at one game apiece.

It was a back-and-forth battle between the two schools for the duration of the match. The Nighthawks regained the lead edging out the Gulls in game three, but Endicott forced the deciding game five, holding off a late Newbury rally to take the fourth game, 30-28. Gulls senior \#John Emery\# (Westford, Mass.) helped Endicott fend off Newbury, 15-13, in game five, recording four of his 14 kills on the night.

The Gulls were led by Witkofsky’s match-high 30 kills and 14 digs and \#Ben Foster\#’s (Penfield, N.Y.) 64 assists. \#Jeremy Siden\# (Natick, Mass.) joined Witkofsky in double-digit kills with 18 while Emery added 14 of his own. \#David Lowe\# (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) and \#David Olson\# (Chelmsford, Mass.) combined for 22 digs in the win.

Led by senior Mark Thomas’s (Wilbraham, Mass.) team-high 23 kills, the Nighthawks had four players reach double-figures in kills. Aberly followed up with 21 kills while junior James Beck (Havre de Grace, Md.) also played solid recording 13 kills. Sophomore Danny Kim (Plainview, N.Y.) rounded out the four with 11 kills.

The Blue and Green return to action on Thursday as the Gulls travel to Rivier College for a 7:00 p.m. matchup with the Blazers.
