Endicott wins 10th straight, smacks Eagles

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott College men’s volleyball team continued to roll on Friday night as the 13th-ranked Gulls won their 10th straight match, cruising past Daniel Webster College in three games. The Blue and Green improve to 16-4 overall and 7-0 in NECVA New England play, while the Eagles fall to 4-6 and 4-5 against league competition.

The Gulls, who used set scores of 30-15, 30-13 and 30-14 in the win, opened the night in impressive fashion as the hosts hit at a .481 clip in the first game. \#Zeke Kubisch\# (Bethlehem, N.Y.) notched five kills and an assisted block in the opening frame while AVCA National Player of the Week \#A.J. Witkofsky\# (Scotia, N.Y.) scored four kills on six swings with just one error.

\#James Sliva\# (Monroe, Conn.) helped lead the Gulls to a 30-13 second set win as the senior middle had four kills in game number two. Freshman \#Matt Devendorf\# (Glastonbury, Conn.) also played a strong role upfront, posting three kills on three attempts.

In the third set, Endicott’s \#Jeremy Siden\# (Natick, Mass.) came off the bench and went off for eight kills on nine attempts while committing just one error. The sophomore outside also had three digs in the frame. Sliva added three more kills while both \#Andrew Slocum\# (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) and \#Joshua Bruno\# (Andover, Mass.) had two to close out the night.

Sliva led all players with nine kills, followed by Siden’s eight. \#Zeke Kubisch\# finished with seven kills in just two games played while \#Ben Foster\# (Penfield, N.Y.) and \#Jeremy Schlosser\# (Emmaus, Pa.) had 22 and 14 assists, respectively.

Daniel Webster, who hit -.098 on the night as a team, got a five kill and eight assist effort from senior Eric Smith (Clay, N.Y.). Justin Masse (Hudson, N.H.), Chris Shannon (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and Elson Abotsi (Pawtucket, R.I.) each had three kills in the losing effort.

Endicott looks to extend its winning-streak to 11 matches when the Gulls take on the Milwaukee School of Engineering on Tuesday evening in Beverly, Mass. The match will be the Blue and Green’s seventh straight at home. Daniel Webster looks to rebound over the weekend as the Eagles host a tri-match with Lesley and Southern Vermont in Nashua, N.H. on Saturday.
