Endicott sweeps Elms to open NECVA play

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Endicott received a match-high nine-kill effort from \#Jeremy Siden\# (Natick, Mass.) and the Gulls hit .443 (40K, 9E, 70TA) as a team to help secure a 3-0 (30-7, 30-13, 30-12) sweep of Elms College in Monday evening’s North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) New England Division men’s volleyball match at Picknelly Arena. The win pushes Endicott to 1-2 on the season and 1-0 in NECVA play while the Blazers fall to 1-2 overall (1-2 NECVA).

Endicott raced to a 19-1 lead in the opening set behind a balanced offensive attack highlighted by three kills from \#John Emery\# (Westford, Mass.), and two each from \#Matt Devendorf\# (Glastonbury, Conn.) and \#Zeke Kubisch\# (Bethlehem, N.Y.). The Gulls closed out the frame by scoring 11 of the next 18 points to take a 1-0 lead in the contest.

In the second stanza, Endicott built an 11-4 lead before a pair of Gulls’ miscues and a Kleckner kill brought the Blazers to within six at 13-7. Endicott then scored five straight points and 13 of the next 17 to extend to take a 26-11 lead. A Gulls’ attacking error and a service ace from freshman outside hitter Stephen Cameron (Newington, Conn.) cut the gap to 26-13, but a kill each from \#A.J. Witkofsky\# (Scotia, N.Y.) and Kubisch, and a pair of service aces from Siden sealed the second set victory and gave Endicott a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Gulls again got off to a rapid start in the third stanza, posting an 11-2 lead which blossomed into a 23-9 advantage. Elms cut its deficit to 27-12 before Endicott closed out the match with a kill and an ace from Siden, and a kill by \#Andrew Slocum\# (Burnt Hills, N.Y.).

Cameron finished with three kills and a team-high five digs in the losing effort for the Blazers while sophomore setter Mike Martin (Enfield, Conn.) issued five assists.

Endicott setter \#Ben Foster\# (Penfield, N.Y.) distributed 19 assists and served up six aces, five of which came in the opening frame. \#David Olson\# (Chelmsford, Mass.) recorded a match-high six digs in the win.

The Gulls delivered 21 aces in the match, and out-blocked Elms, 8.0-3.0.
