Men's Ice Hockey Places Eight Student-Athletes On AHCA All-American Scholars List

AHCA ALL-AMERICAN SCHOLARS RELEASE

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott men's ice hockey team saw eight student-athletes named to the America Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) All-American Scholars list, which was announced by the AHCA earlier this week.

The eight student-athletes named to the list include Josh Bowes (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada), Thomas Daniels (St. Louis, Mo.), Ryan Dougherty (Sterling Heights, Mich.), Michael Heidkamp (Marietta, Ga.), Carter Horwitz (Tustin, Calif.), Bump Lisk (Lawrenceville, N.J.), Brendan Shane (Rochester, N.Y.), and Joseph Slovak (South Yarmouth, Mass.).

To be eligible for the list, a student-athlete must have an average GPA of at least 3.6 and participated in 40 percent or more of the teams' games during the 2016-17 season.

MEN'S 2016-17 SEASON HIGHLIGHTS (24-4-2 overall | 14-3-1 CCC) 

In 2016-17, the Endicott men's ice hockey program captured its first Commonwealth Coast Conference title with a 5-4 victory over the University of New England in the CCC championship game. The team went on to NCAA tournament play and won their first-round game against Hobart by a score of 4-3 before falling to Trinity (Conn.), 2-1, in double overtime.

The Gulls finished the season ranked sixth in both the USCHO.com and D3hockey.com end of year polls. National rankings wise the Gulls finished tops in the country among the following categories: No. 1 scoring offense (4.83 g/gm), No. 6 scoring defense (1.97 g/gm), No. 1 scoring margin (2.87), No. 3 power play (28.1%, 43/153), No. 12 penalty kill (86.5%, 147/170), No. 2 combined special teams (58.8%, 190/323), and No. 2 team winning percentage (.833, 24-4-2). 

Individually, R.J. Tolan received CCC Coach of the Year honors while Kevin Aldridge (Birmingham, Mich.) was named the CCC Goaltender of the Year. Aldridge also joined Tommy Besinger (Milton, Mass.) and Logan Day (Seminole, Fla.) on the CCC First Team, while Cam Bleck (Lake Forest, Ill.) and Ross Olsson (Billerica, Mass.) were tabbed to the CCC Second Team.
