BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott men's ice hockey team claimed a 5-2 victory over Stonehill College on Saturday night in non-conference action at Raymond J. Bourque Arena.
Less than seven minutes into the contest, Endicott produced a quick 2-0 advantage as freshmen Shamus Maloney (North Attleboro, Mass.) and Carter Horwitz (Tustin, Calif.) scored at 2:18 and 6:45, respectively, for the Gulls.
Horwitz highlighted the pair of goals as he one-timed home a feed from Alex Marcinek (Byron Center, Mich.) on a 2-on-1 shorthanded break for his second marker of the season.
Travis Army (Englewood, Colo.) responded for Stonehill 1:37 later off a crisp pass from Anthony D'Elia (Stamford, Conn.) to cut the deficit in half at 2-1.
With less than three minutes remaining in the first, the Skyhawks nearly found the equalizer but Endicott effectively killed off a 5-on-3 situation – thanks in large part to freshman goaltender Kevin Aldridge (Beverly Hills, Mich.) who stopped five shots on net.
Marcinek went on to snipe home the game-winner at the 16:08 mark of the second period, before Endicott outscored Stonehill 2-1 in the third. Joseph Kaszupski (Henderson, Nev.) and Cam Bleck (Lake Forest, Ill.) both scored for the Gulls at 10:58 and 17:28, respectively, in the final 20 minutes of play in the matchup to round out the scoring for the hosts.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Aldridge finished with 29 saves to move his record to 6-2-2 on the season.
- Horwitz scored the first-ever shorthanded goal in program history in tonight's win.
- Bleck, Marcinek, Colin Powell (Easton, Conn.), and Ryan Dougherty (Sterling Heights, Mich.) all registered two points for the Gulls.
- Endicott is 1-0-1 in the all-time series against Stonehill.
FOR THE FOES
- D'Elia notched two assists to bump his team-leading total up to seven this season.
- Freshman goaltender William Palmer (Cranston, R.I.) stopped 34 shots in the loss (3-3-2).
- D'Elia also won a game-high 12 faceoffs in the loss
