Haynes' 36th Place Finish Leads the Way for Women's Cross Country at NCAA DIII Regionals

2014 NCAA DIII New England Regional Women's Results by Teams

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass.-  Coming off of a 2013 season in which both the men and women put forth record performances at the NCAA DIII New England Regional Championship, each program re-wrote the Endicott record books as the women finished at an all-time best 31st out of 57 squads while the men finished in 39th out of 54 teams.  The race was run on the Mt. Greylock course, the same course that the Gulls ran during the Purple Valley Classic earlier in the season.  Both results set program records as the Gulls continue to rapidly improve under second year head coach Nick Radkewich.

For the women, Erin Haynes (Oakham, Mass.) led the way with an Endicott all-time best performance of 36th overall out of the field of 383 runners.  The senior finished the race in a time of 22:58.6, second out of all CCC runners by three seconds, and just .1 seconds off of All-Region honors.  The 36th place showing nearly cut her 2013 placing in half as Haynes finished 67th as a junior.  Sophomore Kiera Malone (Woburn, Mass.) running in her first NCAA Regionals, finished 194th.  Malone's time of 25:36.2 at the Mt. Greylock course bested her time from the Purple Valley Classic on the same course by over a minute.

Junior Grace Brigham (Montpelier, Vt.), also competing in Regionals for her first time, finished third for the Gulls and 227th overall in a time of 26:10.2.  Fellow junior Holly Rigoli (Waltham, Mass.) was right on Brigham's heels, finishing in a time of 26:19.5 and in 232nd place.  Rigoli's NCAA Regionals time was exactly two minutes faster than her time at the Purple Valley Classic.  Freshman Elizabeth Vincent (Marshfield, Mass.) rounded out the Endicott scoring, finishing in 295th place overall with a time of 27:55.3.

For the men, Zachary Marshall (Hinesburg, Vt.) led the way, finishing in 186th place out of 361 runners.  The freshman finished the race in a time of 28:44.9, marking the second straight season that the top runner for the Gulls has been a freshman (Mondello in 2013).  Sophomore Noah Mondello (Gloucester, Mass.) was close behind, finishing 212th overall in a time in 29:13.5.  The second year runner was able to shave over a full minute off of his time from the Purple Valley Classic.

Freshman James Dwyer (Berlin, Conn.) and sophomore Kidder Spillane (Shelburne, Vt.) finished just behind Mondello and within six seconds of each other, finishing in 242nd and 250th, respectively.  Dwyer crossed in a time of 29:42.3 while Spillane finished in a time of 29:48.4.  Senior Mitchell Renfrew (Barkhamsted, Conn.), competing in his final race for the Gulls, finished in 272nd place in a time of 30:16.5.  His time was an astounding four minutes and seven seconds faster than his time at the Purple Valley Classic.

This race marks the completion of the 2014 season for Endicott.  Depending on how other regions finish and in what times, the Gulls remain hopefull that Endicott runner's could potentially be chosen for NCAA Nationals.  Please stay tuned to ECGulls.com for updates.
