Women's Volleyball Splits Opening Matches Of Trinity Fall Classic

SAN ANTONIO, Tex. — The Endicott women's volleyball team split a pair of matches on Friday at the Bell Center as they fell to Eastern University (3-0) earlier in the day and defeated No. 11 Trinity (Tex.) (3-2) to cap off the night. 

EASTERN 3, ENDICOTT 0 (20-25, 20-25, 24-26)

Hadley Helenbrook (Atlanta, Ga.) led the Gulls with 12 kills as Stephanie Moreau (Methuen, Mass.) added five putaways.

Meanwhile, Hannah Maguire (San Jose, Calif.) contributed four kills and ran the attack with 19 assists.

Defensively, Maguire and Helenbrook registered 14 and 12 digs to notch their sixth and fourth double-doubles of the season, respectively.

Amelia Beigel (Amherst, Mass.) tied for a team-high 14 digs.


ENDICOTT 3, No. 11 TRINITY (Tex.) 2 (27-25, 25-23, 16-25, 21-25, 15-12)

Helenbrook led the attack for the Gulls with 27 kills while Ava Grace Dresback (Pawcatuck, Conn.) recorded 20 putaways.

Annie Draper (North Kingston, R.I.) and Moreau both also added seven kills. 

Maguire ran the attack all match as she tied a season-high with 54 assists. 

Emma Ruel (Duxbury, Mass.) controlled the back line with 14 digs while going a perfect 24-24 in serve receive. Helenbrook and Dresbck contributed 12 and 11 digs, respectively. 

Trailing 24-17 in the first set, Abby Downs (Billerica, Mass.) and Helenbrook spearheaded the Gulls comeback as Downs from the service line recorded two aces, while Helenbrook added four kills as Endicott came back to tie the match at 25. The Atlanta, Ga. native then had two more putaways to secure the first set victory. 

The match featured 24 tie scores (7-6-1-6-4) and eight lead changes (3-1-0-3-1).


BEYOND THE BOX SCORES

  • The Gulls are 0-2 against Eastern and 1-1 versus No. 11 Trinity (Tex.) all-time.
  • This was Endicott's first victory over a ranked opponent since defeating No. 10 MIT on 9/10/22 (3-1).
  • Helenbrook's set a new career high in kills and is now tied for 3rd in program history for kills in a match.
  • Dresback set a new career high in kills.

Endicott (5-3) takes on Covenant in the finale of the Trinity Fall Classic on Saturday, September 14 at 3:00 PM.
