COSIDA ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT® RELEASE
BEVERLY, Mass. — Endicott women's volleyball junior middle blocker Colleen McAvoy (Coventry, Conn.) has received CoSIDA Academic All-District® First Team honors, as announced by the organization.
McAvoy will now appear on the national ballot for selection to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® team, which will be voted on by Sports Information Directors (SIDs) across the country in late June.
McAvoy is the second student-athlete in program history to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District® honors joining Mackenzie Kennedy '20 (Andover, Mass.) on the list.
Academically, McAvoy currently sports a 3.70 cumulative grade point average (GPA) as a marketing major.
She also is a two-time Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Academic All-Conference award winner and a multiple Dean's List honoree.
Meanwhile, McAvoy's academic course load has included topics such as marketing analytics, global marketing, consumer behavior, business analysis and research, and advertising fundamentals.
Along with her classwork, McAvoy has completed internships with the International Volleyball Hall of Fame and ERA Blanchard & Rosetto.
She also serves as a note-taker at the College — helping other students on campus academically — coached volleyball summer camps, and served as a lifeguard and aquatics director in her hometown learning additional leadership and life-saving skills in the process.
Athletically, McAvoy has earned the following honors/stats:
- 2x AVCA All-Region Honorable Mention accolades
- 2019 NEWVA All-New England Honorable Mention
- 2018 AVCA New England Rookie of the Year
- 2018 NEWVA All-Rookie Team
- 2018 CCC Rookie of the Year
- 2x All-CCC Second Team selections
- 3x CCC Rookie of the Week awards
- 2019 CCC Champions
- 403 career kills (2.26 k/s; .336 hitting percentage)
- 146 total blocks (17 solo, 129 assist, 0.82 b/s)
CoSIDA Academic All-District® Program Requirements
The CoSIDA Academic All-District® program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined academic and athletic performances.
All First Team Academic All-District® winners, which includes eight districts total, move to the national ballot and are then voted upon to the national team by members of CoSIDA's Academic All-America Committee. Endicott's district – District 1 – includes all schools from Massachusetts and Maine.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution, and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 15,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III, and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
