Endicott Defeats Wheaton 3-1 in Non-Conference Action

NORTON, Mass. - The Endicott women's volleyball team took the to the road to take on Wheaton (Mass.) on Thursday night and returned home with a 3-1 win. The victory improves the Gulls to 7-4 on the season overall and drops the Lyons to 7-4 as well.

Endicott got out to a 1-0 lead by taking the first by a 25-18 final. After dropping the second by a 25-22 final to tie the match at 1-1, the Gulls responded by winning the next two by scores of 25-21 and 25-19 to complete the 3-1 win.

Leading the way for the Gulls was libero Mackenzie Kennedy (Andover, Mass.) finished with a match-high 25 digs in the win. Colleen McAvoy (Coventry, Conn.) as she led all players with her .400 hitting percentage, while posting a team-best 14 kills. The sophomore also posted a match-high five blocks.  Setter Zoey Gifford (Natick, Mass.) recorded her sixth double-double of the season, finishing with 40 assists and 16 digs in the win. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Amanda Gilbert (Hopkinton, Mass.) and Remi Quesnelle (Sunderland, Mass.) finished with 10 kills apiece in the win.
  • Junior Nichole Trudon (Coventry, Conn.) finished with a season-high 10 digs to help the Gulls hold the Lyons to a .161 average.
  • Endicott is now 6-5 all-time against Wheaton in a series that dates back to 2001.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (7-4) travels to Waterville, Maine to take on a pair of NESCAC foes in Colby and Amherst at 1:00 PM. Wheaton (7-4) travels to Worcester, Mass. to take on Western New England and Worcester State.
