Mancini's 24 Kills Lead Endicott in 3-1 Victory Over WNE

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Endicott women's volleyball team picked up an impressive 3-1 win over Western New England (WNE), winning by set scores of 25-17, 25-12, 23-25, 25-9. With the win, Endicott improves to 16-10 overall, and 5-1 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play, while WNE falls to 8-17 overall, and 3-3 in CCC play.

Endicott was dominant offensively, hitting for a .358 average as a team, the second-highest single match output of the season, behind the team's .385 performance against Gordon. The Gulls finished with 53 kills and just 10 errors on 120 swings, while limiting the Golden Bears to a .098 average with just 39 kills. Endicott held the edge every statistical category, including assists (50 to 34), aces (9 to 7), digs (61 to 47), and blocks (7-3). 

The Gulls were led offensively by senior outside Emma Mancini (Lynnfield, Mass.) who dominated the Golden Bears on the outside, posting 24 kills with just five errors on 47 attempts to hit .404 for the match. The reigning CCC Player of the Year also contributed 10 digs and four assist blocks defensively, as she recorded her eighth double-double of the season. Joining Mancini with a double-double including kills was opposite Remi Quesnelle (Sunderland, Mass.), who ended the match with 10 kills and 11 digs to go with a .308 average.

Setter Zoey Gifford (Natick, Mass.) finished with 46 assists, 12 digs and three aces as she finished with her 13th double-double of the year the third Endicott double-double of the match. The CCC leader in assists and assists/set, Gifford is currently 12 shy of 1,000 for the season, and is now averaging 10.62 assists/set overall, and 10.25 in CCC play. Nichole Trudon (Coventry, Conn.) led all players with 15 digs, while libero Mackenzie Kennedy (Andover, Mass.) finished tied for second with 12. Kennedy now leads all CCC players with 449 on the season, 91 more than the next closest mark.

Freshmen Amanda Gilbert (Hopkinton, Mass.) and Colleen McAvoy (Coventry, Conn.) impressed offensively, finishing with .636 and .357 averages, respectively. Gilbert finished error-free, posting seven kills on 11 swings while McAvoy finished with seven kills of her own to go with five blocks (1 solo, 4 assist), which led all players.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • With the win, Endicott is now 18-4 all-time against Western New England as the Gulls have won the last six straight meetings.
  • Following her 24 kill performance, Mancini currently sits a 1,121 for her career, 51 shy of fifth place for career kills at Endicott.

Endicott (16-10, 5-1 CCC) travels to CCC leader Wentworth (21-2, 7-0 CCC) on Tuesday night with first place in the conference on the line. Western New England (8-17, 3-3 CCC) hosts CCC foe Gordon on Tuesday night in a pivotal match-up for playoff seeding.
