BEVERLY, Mass. - The Endicott women's volleyball team fell to Bowdoin 3-1 on Friday night. The team will now travel into Boston, Mass. on Saturday to take on UMass Boston and Springfield at 1 and 3 PM.
The Gulls were able to claim the first set 27-25 before Bowdoin claimed the next three by scores of 28-26, 25-17 and 25-21. Endicott, the No. 8 ranked team in the most recent NEWVA regional poll, is now 13-9 on the season while Bowdoin, the No. 3 ranked team in the NEWVA poll, improves to 17-1.
Leading the way all night for the Gulls were seniors Emily Diezemann (Peabody, Mass.) and Emma Mancini (Lynnfield, Mass.), as the two were honored in the pre-match Senior Day ceremonies. Offensively, Mancini tied for the match-high with 17 kills, while Diezmann led all players with a .474 average after posting 10 kills of her own, and with her five blocks in the match. Mancini also contributed 12 digs to her night for the double-double.
Libero Mackenzie Kennedy (Andover, Mass.) finished with a team-best 26 digs while Zoey Gifford (Natick, Mass.) finished with 49 digs and 14 assists for her 11th double-double of the year. Freshman Amanda Gilbert (Hopkinton, Mass.) continued her impressive freshman season with 14 kills and just two errors on 34 swings for a .353 average to go with five digs and two assist blocks.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- During Diezemann's and Mancini's time at Endicott, the Gulls have produced an 81-41 record overall, and a 26-4 record against Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opponents.
- The seniors have raised a banner in each of their three previous seasons, starting with an ECAC Championship banner in 2015 before claiming the last two CCC titles in 2016 and 2017.
- Head coach Tim Byram on the impact of his two seniors: "These seniors have been a joy to work with day in and day out. They have shown up and worked hard and with that, the results have followed. During their time, they have consistently modeled what a Gull should look like from doing any job as needed, and when needed, to upholding or addressing team standards. As they look back on their careers and their time in the program, they should be immensely proud of the climate and culture they have helped establish and the foundation that is in place to build upon!"
WHAT'S NEXT
Endicott (13-9, 3-1 CCC) heads to Boston to take on UMass Boston and Springfield. Bowdoin (17-1, 7-0 NESCAC) travels to Vermont to take on Middlebury in NESCAC play.
