Endicott Knocks Off Regional Power Tufts 3-1

MEDFORD, Mass. - The Endicott women's volleyball team traveled to Tufts for a non-conference match between two regionally ranked teams and returned home with a 3-1 win.

The Gulls claimed a tight first set 25-23 before dropping the second 25-13 to even the match at 1-1. Endicott would rebound well and take the next two tightly contested sets by scores of 25-22 and 28-26 for the 3-1 win. With the win, Endicott is now 7-5 while Tufts falls to 6-3.

Endicott was led by senior outside Emma Mancini (Lynnfield, Mass.) who finished with 15 kills on a .289 average to go with nine digs. Fellow outside Alex Dippel (Fallston, Md.) finished the contest with 11 kills of her own while right side Remi Quesnelle (Sunderland, Mass.) closed the match hitting .529 with nine kills on 17 error-free swings. Freshman middle Colleen McAvoy (Coventry, Conn.), the reigning CCC Rookie of the Week, recorded a full box score, finishing with eight kills, a .329 average, five blocks, a dig and an ace. 

Mackenzie Kennedy (Andover, Mass.) led all players with 19 digs while setter Zoey Gifford (Natick, Mass.) directed the offense with 40 assists to go with seven digs.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Gulls and Jumbos both entered the contest as ranked teams in the first NEWVA New England poll of 2018. Tufts entered the match as the seventh ranked squad in the region, while Endicott was tabbed 13th (NEWVA Poll 9/18)
  • Endicott has knocked off Tufts in each of the last two seasons, winning a 3-2 thriller at home in 2017.
  • Defensive specialist Nichole Trudon (Coventry, Conn.) finished with seven digs off the bench.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (7-5) hosts Wheaton (Mass.) on Thursday, September 20 at 7 PM, before hosting Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) foe Nichols on Saturday as part of Endicott's Homecoming Weekend. Tufts plays host to NESCAC foe Bowdoin on Friday night at 7 PM.
