Endicott Sweeps Colby 3-0 Behind Balance Offensive Attack

BEVERLY, Mass. - The Endicott women's volleyball team moved to 4-1 on the young season with a 3-0 sweep of NESCAC foe Colby College on Friday night. The loss was Colby's first of the year as they fell to 1-1.

The Gulls claimed a tight first set 25-23 after both teams were tied at 22-22 before taking the final two by scores 25-13 and 25-19.

The Endicott offense was able to generate 45 kills in the three sets as 10 different student-athletes registered at least one kill in the match. Endicott's kill leader for the night was Emma Mancini (Lynnfield, Mass.) who finished with nine kills on 17 attempts while hitting .353 to go with eight digs and three aces in just two sets of action. Opposites Remi Quesnelle (Sunderland, Mass.) and Meghan Frederick (Sunapee, N.H.) combined for 12 kills on 24 swings while Nicole Winkler (Southborough, Mass.) and Colleen McAvoy (Coventry, Conn.) combined for 10 kills on 16 attempts in the middle. 

Mackenzie Kennedy (Andover, Mass.) again led the defensive effort, picking up 21 digs in the match while setter Zoey Gifford (Natick, Mass.) finished with 37 assists and 10 digs.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott is now 6-3 all-time against Colby in a rivalry that pitts two former classmates at UMaine Farmington in Tim Byram and Candice Parent, against each other.
  • Gifford's double-double of 37 assists and 10 digs was the 21st double-double of her career.
  • Tonight's win was the 365th for head coach Tim Byram who is in his 19th year at the helm.

WHAT'S NEXT

Both teams will travel into Cambridge, Mass. to compete in day two of the MIT Invitational. Endicott will take on Springfield at noon and MIT at 4 PM while Colby faces Wellesley at 10 AM and Suffolk at 2 PM.
