First-Year Internship Q&A with Women's Volleyball Student-Athlete Meghan Frederick

BEVERLY, Mass. – At Endicott College, a student's first-year internship lays the foundation for future success. It either reinforces early career decisions or creates a new path of thinking about life after graduation. In essence, it gets undergraduate students thinking about their future right from the start, putting them a step ahead of their competition. 

During the winter season, Endicott women's volleyball freshman student-athlete Meghan Frederick (Sunapee, N.H.) completed her first-year internship. Frederick gained valuable experiences through her first-year internship and offered up her perspectives to ECGulls.com.

First-year Internship: Avitide

Describe your overall experience at your internship.

I had a great experience. The people who worked at Avitide were welcoming and willing to create tasks for me that were achievable but that needed time and special skills to achieve them. I worked with many different employees at Avitide that wanted me to design 3D parts for their different robots. Because I had to work with these different people it helped me with my communication skills and making different connections. 

Did your perspective on your chosen career path / major change? Do you want to further pursue this career path / major or do you think you might want to try a different area of your major or switch all together?

I will continue to study bioengineering because I loved what I was doing, however, I think that I will end up doing something a bit different in the future. I worked on 3D designing mechanical parts, but in the future, I want to work on 3D design anatomical parts for surgeries ex. tissue engineering. By working with Avitide I realized that I need an environment where I am not only sitting down at the desk all day but moving, experimenting, and communicating with others throughout the day.

What was the biggest lesson you learned from your first internship?
