SALEM, Mass. - With sophomore Remi Quesnelle (Sunderland, Mass.) leading the way with 13 kills while hitting at a .500 clip, the Endicott women's volleyball team defeated North Shore foe Salem State 3-1 to move to 2-2 on the young season.
The Gulls statistically dominated the match, out-hitting the Vikings .276 to .042 while scoring 62.0 points to 33.5 for the home squad. Endicott also held the edge in total kills (43 to 24), aces (8 to 1) and blocks (11-8).
Endicott stormed out to a commanding 25-13 win in the first set before being tripped up in the second, 25-23, to even the match at 1-1. The Gulls responded well, taking the third by a 25-14 score before closing out the Vikings with a dominant 25-12 fourth.
BEYOND THE BOX
Emma Mancini (Lynnfield, Mass.) continued her strong start to the season, picking up eight kills on 13 swings while hitting .462. The junior outside also added seven digs in her three sets played.
Zoey Gifford (Natick, Mass.) racked up match-high 20 assists in her four sets of action to go with three digs.
Quesnelle added nine digs to her 13 kill performance, which tied her with sophomore libero Mackenzie Kennedy (Andover, Mass.) for the team lead.
Freshmen Meghan Frederick (Sunapee, N.H.) and Nicole Winkler (Southborough, Mass.) played well offensively, posting seven and five kills respectively.
Endicott is now 15-5 all-time against Salem St. The Gulls have not lost to the Vikings since 2001.
FOR THE FOES
Jasmine Severino (Lawrence, Mass.) and Samantha Chaisson (Duxbury, Mass.) led the Vikings with five kills each.
Libero Hannah Mullarkey (Salem, Mass.) stood out defensively, finishing with a match-high 24 digs.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Gulls return home to the friendly confines of the MacDonald Gymnasium for an early season rematch against Springfield at 6:00 p.m. as part of the MIT Invitational before traveling to MIT on Saturday for matches against MIT and Wellesley. The Gulls and Pride met last week at Springfield in an extremely close match that Springfield claimed by a 3-1 final. Dating back to 2016, the two teams will have met three times in Endicott's last six matches. Salem State travels to Cambridge, Mass. to take on Lesley on Saturday.
