Gulls Sweep Nor'Easters 3-0 to Improve to 2-0 in CCC Play

BIDDEFORD, Maine- Looking to avenge their 2012 loss to the Nor'Easters, Endicott used a potent offensive attack and solid all-around performance to dominate UNE on Wednesday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action.  Endicott was able to compile a team line of 33-7-92 (.283) while serving up 10 aces on the evening.  The Gulls won in straight sets with scores of 25-14, 25-13 and 25-19.

Senior Callie Dolan (Westford, Mass.) was on fire offensively as she led the offense with 14 kills.  Dolan hit at a .355 clip with a line of 14-3-31 while also chipping in defensively with six digs.  Freshman Tori McIntyre (San Diego, Calif.) was also impressive on both ends as she totaled eight kills and 15 digs in the match.  Sophomore Mackenzie Guerre (Carlsbad, Calif.) was second behind Dolan in hitting percentage with a .333 clip as she picked up seven kills on 18 attempts.  Reigning CCC Defensive Player of the Week Erika Trudon (Coventry, Conn.) was again stellar on defense as she recorded her ninth straight match with double-digit digs with 12.  Trudon and McIntyre were forces from the serving line as Trudon totaled two aces while McIntyre totaled five, including two straight to end the match.  Setter Alleigh VandeMerkt (Riverside, Ill.) directed the offense well as she collected 30 assists in the three set win.

Endicott used their defensive efforts to frustrate the Nor'Easter attack as the Gulls collected 52 digs while forcing UNE to hit at just a .087 clip.  Endicott received solid defensive performances from Dolan, Trudon, McIntyre, and Jessica Petrucci (Cape Coral, Fla.) as those players picked up six or more digs.  Kelli Sugrue (Tewksbury, Mass.) and McIntyre each picked up two assist blocks at the net while Guerre notched a solo and an assist to aid in the defensive performance.

UNE was led by the duo of Leah Janelle (Madbury, N.H.) and Angie Brunette (North Andover, Mass.) as each player picked up eight kills.  Janelle, the younger sister of former Endicott standout Hayley Janelle '09, also grabbed eight digs and an ace in the loss.

Endicott, who improved their all-time record against UNE to 14-2, improves to 7-8 on the season overall and 2-0 in CCC play.  UNE falls to 6-5 overall and 0-1 in CCC play.  The Gulls now take to the road for a big tournament in New York City as they will compete in the Baruch Invitational.  Endicott will play Richard Stockton at 5 p.m. on Friday before playing Baruch and Ramapo at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. respectively.
