BEVERLY, Mass.- The women's volleyball team struggled to find their rhythm against an impressive Williams team as they dropped the match in three closely contested sets. With set scores of 25-21, 25-21 and 25-20, Endicott fell to 1-1 in the Endicott Invitational and 1-3 on the season. Williams improved to 2-0 in the tournament and their season.
Williams, who had just come off of an emotional five set win over the #16 team in the country in Eastern (Pa.), kept the momentum rolling in their match against Endicott. The Ephs hit .252 in the match while making just 16 errors. In comparison, the Gulls hit .124 while also committing 16 errors. Williams knocked home 42 kills to Endicott's 28.
The Ephs were led by setter Ryan Farley (La Jolla, Calif.) who tallied a whopping 35 assists in the three set match. The sophomore completed the double-double by tying for the team lead in digs with 10 digs. Offensively, outside Tori Jausta (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) led the charge as she put down a team high 11 kills to go along with 10 digs. Opposite Emily Doll (Villa Park, Calif.) was close on her heels as she notched nine kills of her own while outside Claire Miller (Wilmette, Ill.) tallied seven kills and five digs.
The Gulls were led by sophomore Mackenzie Guerre (Carlsbad, Calif.) who picked up a team-leading nine kills. Freshman Tori McIntyre (San Diego, Calif.) had a solid offensive match with seven kills and two aces on her way to a .250 night cap. Sophomore Jackie Cone continued her solid play on the evening as she dug up 10 Ephs attacks. Lilly Benabou (Medway, Mass.) and Alleigh VandeMerkt (Riverside, Ill.) both were second on the team with eight digs of their own.
The Gulls are back in action tomorrow at noon time as they take on #16 Eastern before taking on Bowdoin in the night cap at 4 p.m. Williams is back at it early tomorrow as they take on Plymouth State on court 1 at 10 a.m. before facing CCC opponent Roger Williams on court 2 at 2 p.m.
